Early Life and Punk Beginnings
Shane MacGowan was born into an Irish family in County Tipperary, but moved to England with his family at the age of six and a half.
His exposure to London's punk scene greatly influenced him, and he soon formed his own punk band, The Nipple Erectors, later renamed The Nips.
The Pogues and Commercial Success
In 1982, MacGowan co-founded The Pogues, a Celtic punk band that achieved significant commercial success.
